Medtech Detect's device for the detection of single molecules now has patent pending status in the USA, Europe, Japan and Brazil.  This device is a hand-held point of care (POC) instrument with a color read-out visible to the naked eye.  It will be used initially to detect infections that cripple society in large numbers and can be life-threatening (e.g., E. coli, MRSA-Staph and other food & water-borne bacteria).  Clinician-physicians, nurses, emergency room staff, as well as home diagnostic users will be able to rapidly diagnose infection without the delay or expense of numerous blood and/or urine tests, subspecialty consulting expenses or radiology scans.  Progress in POC technology development was enabled by the support and guidance of the University Technology Park at IIT (UTP) and IIT faculty & staff.  Medtech is  proceeding with peer-review agencies that include NIH-SBIR, NSF, FDA (food safety) and CDC (bacteria).
